Twenty true and honest men and women, in Plunket Chambers, Oliver Plunket St, established the Irlanda Italiana Cultural Association on Tuesday 25th Oct .
We three Corkesi took take part in a meeting in Italian that lasted just over 2 hours – what a unique experience. Once my ears adjusted, I felt like I was in a conference room in Italy. I followed the proceedings, more or less, and was able to contribute to the debate – a great conference booster. I have great hopes for future activities.
We approved the regulations and the statutes of the association as well as electing the president, Roberto Gasperoni, and vice president, Costanza Lopez, among other officials.
We discussed a census of Italians living in Cork, participation in next years Paddy’s Day parade, language classes, cinema and theatre events, and a gastronomic happening in early December to showcase food from the various Italian regions.
The next meeting of Irlanda Italiana is 16th Nov, 2011
