Pre-Reading List

Incoming students often ask what they should read to prepare themselves for the course.

This is a hard question to answer because the best sources to be reading are articles in peer reviewed journals, they can be hard to access if you are not part of an academic community. Nevertheless, it is the best way to evaluate the the research base so that you can bring the most recent evidence based interventions to your coachees.

Luckily, most of the leading researchers in the area have widely available books.

This is not an exhaustive list, it is purely indicative. And I’ve only included one book for each author. And feel free to read another of their books instead.

Ilona Boniwell: Positive Psychology in a Nutshell

Daniel Levitin: The Organized Mind: Thinking Straight in the Age of Information Overload

Sonja Lyubomirsky: The How of Happiness: A Scientific Approach to Getting the Life You Want

Martin Seligman: Flourish: A Visionary New Understanding of Happiness and Well-Being

And if you do have easy access to academic journals, here are a few to look at.

International Coaching Psychology Review

Journal of Happiness Studies

Journal of Positive Psychology
